While the Space and Galaxy Rangers were out exploring foreign planets, the Spices kept their eye on the bridge. Pico climbed into a chair and stood on his head, something he does quite often. Robyn and Rachel approached him.
"I hate it when you go upside down!" Robyn whined.
"And why is that?" Pico asked.
"Because I can see your hinder."
Pico dropped down to the floor, then picked himself up. "What's a hinder?"
"You know……your hinder!" Robyn replied, pointing to her behind.
Pico shot her a sour glance. "What's wrong with my hinder? I've been told that I have a cute hinder."
"Told? By whom?" Gazelle asked.
"By experts."
"Uh-huh." Gazelle began to leave the room.
"Gazelle, wait!" the twins called.
"What's the matter?" Gazelle asked as he walked down the hall.
"Isn't a gazelle a word for an antelope?" Rachel asked.
"Yeah, so?"
"So why is your name Gazelle?"
"Hmm….." Gazelle pondered for a moment. "Follow me into my bedroom and find out."
As they walked down the hall, the twins poked their heads into a bedroom where Hallie and Kathy were playing.
"Come on, guys!" Rachel cried. "Gazelle's gonna tell us a story!"
Hallie and Kathy jumped up and followed them into Gazelle's bedroom. Gazelle sat in a chair while the girls sat on the floor. It now looked like a preschool.
"Wow, everybody's getting in on the fun," Gazelle commented. "Okay, here goes. Being an F-Zero racer isn't what you'd expect it to be. People get broken collar bones, broken legs…..did you know that Arbin busted his femur once? Have you ever busted a femur?"
"What's a femur?" Robyn asked.
"It's the bone right in here," Gazelle replied, pointing to his thigh. "Anyway, Bio Rex cracked his skull once; he had to have a metal screw in his head for a while. But, you know, thirteen years in F-Zero, you gotta expect to get a little banged up. I liked it though! I liked it, the thrills, the spills……even when I do make it through a race without a scratch, I climb out of my vehicle limping."
"So how did you get your name?" Rachel asked.
"Oh, that's right, my name!" Gazelle exclaimed. "Well, during one of my F-Zero races, I fell off the track. I fell at least 25,000 feet. It was just like falling off an airplane. My vehicle hit the ground and simply went kaboom."
"Did you die?" Hallie asked.
"Just about. When these mad scientists found me, I was barely alive. I had a serious case of amnesia….."
"What's amnesia?" Robyn asked.
"It's where you lose your memory," Gazelle replied. "You don't remember anything about yourself. You don't remember your name, your family, your past, or your home. Anyway, I didn't have my ID card on me, so the scientists couldn't even tell me who I was. The only link to my past was a photo of myself that I kept in the vehicle. The scientists took me in and made me into a cyborg to save me."
"Then they named you Gazelle?" Hallie asked. "Why didn't they name you C-3PO?"
"Of course, your question is why they named me Gazelle, right?" Gazelle stood up and opened his locker. He pulled out a picture of his human identity and handed it to the girls. As soon as they saw it, they burst into riotous laughter. Gazelle snatched his photo back. "Yes, I can tell you found my human appearance quite amusing. Anyway, do you see anything familiar about it?"
Gazelle looked much different as a human. He was rather chubby and mostly bald except for pink hair in the center of his head. He wore a pink shirt with "GAZELLE" printed across it.
"Do you see this?" Gazelle asked, pointing to his shirt. "They saw the shirt I wore in the picture, so they named me Gazelle. And we all lived happily ever after." He stuffed his photo back inside his locker. Then he sighed as he left the room.
"I don't think he likes us laughing at his picture," Rachel observed.
"I want to know how Arbin got his name," Robyn said.
"Let's go ask him!" Rachel cried.
The girls raced into the dining room where Hanim, Arbin, Ruth, and Carlos sat.
"Uncle Arbin!" the twins cried. "Uncle Arbin!"
Arbin looked confused. "I don't belong in the proper place of your family tree to be addressed as "'Uncle.' Yes, yes, what is it?"
"How did you get to be named Arbin?" Rachel asked. "It's such an unusual name."
"Well, the surname Gordon was automatic," Arbin replied. "But why am I named Arbin? Because my father wanted to name me after the word "'Armageddon.' However, the only name close to that was Robin. But that wouldn't be right, so they just flipped the first syllable and came up with Arbin. Just listen……Arbin Gordon…..Armageddon. Notice the striking similarity?"
"Hmm…..I think I do," Ruth said. "How interesting……"
"So, in a sense, my name is Armageddon," Arbin concluded.
"Do you know how Bio Rex got his name?" Robyn asked.
"No, I'm afraid not. You'll have to ask him."
"Deca, where's Bio Rex?" Rachel called.
"Bio Rex is in his bedroom," Deca replied.
"Let's go!" The girls raced to Bio Rex's bedroom and knocked on the door.
Bio Rex was just resting on his bed. "Come in," he called.
The twins entered the room. "Bio Rex!"
Bio Rex sat up, hitting his head on the bunk above him. "Ow…..they must've had some short people on this ship…..so what's up?"
"We want to know how you got your name," Robyn said.
"Oh, that's simple enough. Have you seen Jurassic Park?"
"I love that movie!" Rachel cried.
"You remember how they made dinosaurs with the mosquitoes and such," Bio Rex explained. "Well, I was created the very same way. In fact, the scientists' first quote was, "'Dinosaurs live again!' And another word for "'life' is "'bio.' That's how I got the name Bio Rex."
"Any idea how Pico got his name?"
"Nope, sorry," Bio Rex replied.
"Attention: Terra Venture is under attack," Deca announced.
"Well, you'll have to wait to ask him," Bio Rex said. "We've gotta move."
Bio Rex and the twins met the others down on Terra Venture. The Stingwingers were once again attacking the citizens. The Rangers and Spices intercepted. The Stingwingers had a rather dirty mission this time. The heroes kept fairly close together. After a while, several Stingwingers flew around with nets. Two of them dropped a net, which trapped the twins. The net carried an electric charge, electrocuting the twins. Robyn and Rachel let out a scream before collapsing to the ground.
"Oh no, the girls!" Ruth cried as she rushed over to them. When she tried to remove the net, she received an electric shock, too. Then she had to fight off some more Stingwingers.
Pico jump kicked a Stingwinger, then swept another. Then the Stingwingers began to move back. Pico was confused at first, but then a few more Stingwingers dropped the net on him. Like the twins, Pico received the shock that knocked him out cold.
"Fulgore, Pico's in trouble!" Gazelle cried.
"Not to mention the twins," Fulgore added.
The Stingwingers couldn't afford to waste any more time. They took the nets that trapped Pico and the twins and vanished. The heroes were very confused. Ruth was especially upset.
"What am I going to do?" she asked.
"WE…..are going to get Pico and the twins back," Jenny assured her. She wandered away from the group. "They're probably up at the Scorpion Stinger. Hmm……we'll need a plan…..something different……"
As she pondered, several Stingwingers reappeared, grabbed her, and disappeared before the others could even react.
"Jenny!" Carlos cried. "Oh man….."
"Well, that was easy enough," Bio Rex said.
Spinal looked around nervously. "Uh…..let's get out of here before they grab someone else," he suggested.
"Good idea," Hanim said. "See ya."
The group teleported back to the ship.

~*~

"Good news, Scorpius," Treacheron reported. "The Stingwingers have captured four Spice Club members."
"Excellent," Scorpius responded flatly. "Which ones?"
"Tonfa Spice, Turtle Spice, and Magic Spice's daughters."
Trakeena gasped. She grabbed Treacheron's shirt. "Pico? You captured Pico?!?!?"
Treacheron sighed. "Yes, we've captured Pico. He's rotting in the cell if you want to have your way with him. But I'll warn you, he may still be unconscious."
"Oh goodie!" Trakeena skipped out of the throne room.
"The Rangers and Spices will no doubt look here to find them," Scorpius said. "I want you to take Tonfa Spice somewhere else. I don't care where. She must be separate from the other three."
"Yes, Scorpius." Treacheron bowed, turned, and left the room.
"Let the Rangers rescue the other three," Scorpius said. "But in order to rescue Tonfa Spice, poor Spinal Spice will have no choice but to surrender the Lights of Orion."

~*~

"Okay, first things first," Andros announced as the group arrived at the Megaship. "We track down their rings."
Fulgore began pressing buttons on the control terminal while Spinal looked over his shoulder.
"I'm not getting anything," he said. "They have to be on the Scorpion Stinger."
"That's too obvious!" Maya cried. "Scorpius knows that we'll try to rescue them. He'll be laying traps."
"Maya's right," Leo said. "We can't just approach him dead center. We'll have to try a strategic approach."
"I believe that I can bypass Scorpius' security system undetected," Fulgore said. "I would like a companion, though."
"I'll go," Ruth volunteered. "I'll stop at nothing to get my children back!"
"All right, let's go." Fulgore and Ruth began to leave the bridge.
"Wait!" Gazelle cried. "I want to go, too."
"Why?" Fulgore asked.
"Well, we cyborgs have to stick together," Gazelle replied, wrapping an arm around Fulgore's shoulder.
"Come on, we're wasting time!" Ruth interrupted. "Let's get going! The sooner we get the others back, the sooner I can relax!"
Without another word, she and the cyborgs walked out.
"May the best of luck accompany you on your quest!" Arbin called.

~*~

"Ugh." Rachel woke up slowly, but her senses returned quickly. She was sitting in some sort of holding cell, but didn't know exactly where she was.
"Psst. Robyn, wake up!" Rachel gently shook her sister, who woke up
"Oooh, what happened?" Robyn groaned.
The twins looked around to gather their surroundings. Pico had already been awake and was sitting against the wall of the same cell. He sat with his arms crossed, his face looking grumpier than ever.
"It's about time you woke up!" he grumbled. "Y'all sure do sleep long enough."
"Pico!" Rachel cried. The twins ran over and hugged him.
"Okay, enough with the love stuff!" Pico ordered.
"Where are we?" Robyn asked.
"Scorpion Stinger," Pico said flatly. "Scorpius' fortress. Fortunately, Trakeena hasn't tried to lay her hands on me yet. If she does, I swear I will kill her!"
"Well, since we're sitting around, we have a question," Rachel said. "Why is your name Pico?"
"Whaddaya mean why is my name Pico? It just is."
"But how did you get the name?" Robyn asked.
Pico sighed. "Remember when I told you about my home planet?"
"Yeah."
"Well, because of all the violence that took place down there, it didn't have a name. None of the citizens had names either. The parents were too busy killing each other to name their children, and my parents were no exception. So for the first century of my life, I had no name."
"So how did you get the name?" Rachel asked.
"Well, I became a superb fighter," Pico explained. "One of the most feared warriors on the planet. Many tried to kill me, but they were the ones who were killed. Since I was feared so greatly, they began to call me bad, which in our language is "pico." Eventually, I grew attached to the name, so when I left the planet and met new people, I introduced myself as Pico, and came to be called Pico."
Having finished his story, Pico stood up and walked to the cell door. He gripped the bars and shook vigorously, trying to break the cell open.
"Pico!" a female voice called.
Pico, recognizing the voice, instantly backed up to the wall. Trakeena stood outside the cell.
"Hello, Pico," she said. "I just came to check on my favorite lover. Come, Pico…..let me touch you….."
"Just stay away from me!" Pico demanded.
Trakeena opened the cell, stepped inside, and locked it again. She tried to move closer to Pico, but he kept moving back. The twins cowered at the corner of the cell, clutching each other tightly. Trakeena lunged at Pico, smashing him into the wall. She tried to kiss him, but Pico maintained pressure to push her away.
"Knock it off, Trakeena!" a voice called.
The group turned to see Ruth, Gazelle, and Fulgore standing in the doorway waving innocently. Seeing that Trakeena was distracted, Pico shoved her away roughly.
"Mommy!" the twins cried in unison.
Pico grabbed the cell bars. "Gazelle, get us out of here this instant!" he demanded.
"I know how you feel," Gazelle said. "Nobody likes being cooped up in a cell."
"Allow me." Fulgore zapped the lock with his eye laser.
Pico fiercely kicked the door open and marched out. The twins ran out and hugged Ruth. Then the group began to leave the Scorpion Stinger.
"Oooh, I almost forgot!" Fulgore closed the dungeon (with Trakeena still inside) and fried it shut with his plasma storm. "Bye-yi!"
He ran to catch up with his friends.
"Hey, let me out!" Trakeena screamed. "Stingwingers!!"

~*~

The Spices teleported back to the Megaship safely. They walked onto the bridge triumphantly.
"And that takes care of that," Fulgore said, dropping into a chair.
"Um…..I hate to rain on your parade, but what about Jenny?" Spinal asked.
Fulgore slapped himself. "Oh man….."
"She wasn't on the Scorpion Stinger," Gazelle said.
"Well, if we couldn't track down her ring and she wasn't on the Scorpion Stinger…..then where could she be?" Leo asked.
"Maybe we should try to track her down again," Fulgore suggested, walking up to the terminal. "Hey…..I'm getting a transmission!"
He pressed another button, and Scorpius appeared on the screen. "Greetings, my foes," he snarled. "I wish to speak with Spinal Spice."
"Eeeuw!" the twins exclaimed.
"What do you want, Scorpius?" Spinal asked.
"I want to make a simple trade," Scorpius replied. "Give me the Lights of Orion, and I will return Tonfa Spice to you."
"Forget it!" Fulgore snapped, tossing Spinal aside. "No more games, Scorpius! Where is she?"
"She is alive and safe…..for now," Scorpius taunted. "But that won't be the case for long if Spinal Spice does not surrender the Lights of Orion. You have fifteen minutes to come to a decision. If you refuse, your precious leader will be blown to space dust."
The image disappeared from the monitor. Spinal stood, looking as if he was about to cry. Then he turned and ran from the bridge.
"Wait a minute!" Fulgore cried, chasing Spinal into the hall. "Hold on, you little poop!"
Spinal stopped when Fulgore grabbed his shoulder. "Fulgore, I don't know what to do!" he whined. "I can't give up the Lights of Orion……but Jenny's just too important!"
"I know what you mean," Fulgore said. "But I think we should try a rescue mission first."
"In just fifteen minutes!?" Spinal screamed. "That's impossible, especially since we have no idea where Jenny is!" He sighed. "Fulgore……I'm giving up the Lights……"

~*~

Jenny was kept in a dark cave chained to a large boulder. Struggling was useless, as she couldn't break free. An army of Stingwingers stood around her, making sure that she didn't escape. As she struggled, a figure with military colors approached her. He had glowing green eyes, and was incredibly intimidating.
"I am the Dark Warrior," he boomed.
Jenny paused and shot him a look. "What do you want?" she snarled.
"I want the Lights of Orion."
"I don't have the Lights of Orion, nor do I know where they are."
"Perhaps you've given it to your friend for safekeeping," Dark Warrior said. "His name is Spinal, isn't it?"
"Leave Spinal alone!" Jenny started to lunge at Dark Warrior, but the chains held her back.
"If Spinal doesn't surrender the Lights within the next ten minutes, I'll activate the explosive device, which will detonate in half an hour," Dark Warrior continued, his green eyes flashing brightly. "You have little time left, Tonfa Spice. Tell me what I want to know."
The Stingwingers activated an explosion device. Jenny stared at it, her heart pounding viciously…..

~*~

Fulgore and Spinal returned to the bridge just as Scorpius reappeared on the video screen.
"So what will it be, Spinal Spice?" he asked.
"I give up!" Spinal sobbed. "I'll give up the Lights……just let Jenny go!"
"Of course," Scorpius replied. "I may be evil, but I never go back on my word."
"But he'll gladly break it," Pico mumbled.
"You will meet the Dark Warrior at the northeast wing of Terra Venture," Scorpius instructed. "There, you will present the Lights of Orion. The Dark Warrior will be waiting. Oh, and you must come alone." With that over with, Scorpius disappeared from the screen.
Spinal lowered his head and dragged himself out of the bridge. The others stared at him, sighing with melancholy…..

~*~

Jenny had been left alone in the cave next to the explosion device. There still wasn't much she could do since she was still tied to the bounder. She looked up at the clock……

TIME REMAINING: 8 min 46 sec.

Jenny squirmed desperately to get away from the bomb, but the chains held her tightly. The nasty chill that ran up her spine wouldn't allow her to give up. As she waited for her doom, Darkonda appeared. Jenny gasped.
"Darkonda!"
"Greetings, my love," Darkonda said, taking a bow. "You look like you're in a bind."
"You can say that again," Jenny responded.
"Perhaps I can be of assistance."
"Better make it quick."
"I may be an outcast from the Scorpion Stinger, but I can still listen in on his plans," Darkonda continued. "Dark Warrior is using you as a hostage to get the Lights of Orion." He placed his hands on Jenny's shoulders. "You must tell me where they are."
"I don't know where they are," Jenny told him. "Only Spinal knows."
"Obviously, Scorpius doesn't intend to release you when Spinal gives him the Lights."
"Yes, I know that."
"So I'm here to release you," Darkonda babbled. "I'm honored to be your savior once again."
He gently stroked her face and leaned in to kiss her.
"Darkonda," Jenny interrupted. "The detonator."
She nodded towards the bomb, and Darkonda strolled over to it.
"Hmm…..let's see what we've got here….."
"Can you deactivate it?" Jenny asked.
"I believe so," Darkonda replied. "I just need some time."
"Time is something we're running low on."
Darkonda stared at the detonator deep in thought……

~*~

Meanwhile, Spinal had teleported down to the designated area of Terra Venture. He sat cross-legged on the ground, and his head hung low.
"I'm sorry, Jenny….." he mumbled aloud, plucking bite of grass from the ground. "I just can't let you die because of my refusal to give up a stupid light bulb. I'm sure we can still defeat Scorpius."
"Spinal Spice!" a rasping voice called.
Spinal stood up as soon as he heard the voice. "What!?"
"I am the Dark Warrior. I seek the Lights of Orion from you."
"Look, I don't have them with me….."
"What!? Scorpius demanded that you bring the Lights to me."
"Well, I thought it would be better if I took you to them," Spinal protested.
"No one cares what you think, you little brat," Dark Warrior snapped. "Bring me the Lights of Orion now! You have five minutes!"
"Okay, you big bully…..if you're gonna be nasty about it," Spinal stammered. He pressed on his ring and teleported away.

~*~

Darkonda still pondered as he stood in front of the detonator, which continued to count down to zero. There were only five minutes left on the clock. Darkonda reached out and pulled a wire out of it. The clock instantly skipped down to one minute left.
"Curses! We've lost four minutes!"
"Darkonda, just get out; save yourself!" Jenny cried.
"Never!" Darkonda responded. "I can't live without you. I made a pact: We either escape together or die together."
He returned to the detonator as the clock ticked. This time, he pulled out a blue wire. Luckily, the clock stopped.
"Got it!" he announced.
"All right, nice job!" Jenny called. "Now you may kiss me."
Darkonda stood right in front of Jenny. He wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her passionately. Jenny only became more and more aware that her arms were restrained. Out of nowhere, she gasped.
"Oh no! I have to stop Spinal from surrendering the Lights! Darkonda, get these chains off me!"
"With pleasure." Darkonda pulled out his sword and chopped the chains, releasing Jenny. She immediately opened her ring…..

~*~

Spinal stood over the grave where he had buried the Lights of Orion. He was really reluctant to do this, but he had to save Jenny. He picked up a shovel and squeezed it tightly. He raised the handle and prepared to jam it into the dirt…..
But wait…..his ring began to flash. Spinal opened it up.
"Go ahead, I read you," he sighed.
"Spinal, are you there?" Jenny called.
Spinal's eyes widened. "Jenny??"
"I hear you're about to give up the Lights of Orion."
"Well…..yeah."
"Well don't. I'm okay," Jenny said. "I'm going back to the ship. Meet me there."
"Okay, I'm on my way." Spinal closed his ring, then let out a scream of joy. He teleported back to the ship.

~*~

Jenny and Spinal met on the ship and walked into the bridge simultaneously. The others were surprised to see Jenny.
"Jenny, where've you been!?" T.J. cried.
"You don't want to know," Jenny replied with a smile. "I'm just glad to be back."
"But how did you escape?" Carlos asked.
"I escaped with the aid of Darkonda," Jenny told him.
"Well, I'm glad I don't have to deliver the Lights of Orion after all," Spinal said.
"So, when do we rescue Pico and the twins?" Jenny asked.
"The next time we're kidnapped!" Pico called rudely from the other end of the bridge.
Jenny looked up. "Oh, I see you've already taken care of that."
"That's right!" Fulgore called.
"Well, now that we're all present and accounted for, let's put Dark Warrior's lights out!"
Once Jenny finished the sentence, Lenina walked onto the bridge.
"What's this? We're turning out some lights?" she asked.
Gazelle put an arm around her shoulder. "Oh, nothing. We're about to out and battle the Dark Warrior. Wanna come with us?"
"Oh yes, yes, yes!" Lenina squealed. "I do! I do!"
Jenny gave her a weird look. "How old are you?"
"Nineteen. How about you?"
"Sixteen."
Lenina's eyes widened. "No, you can't be that young! You look more like twenty-three!"
"I'm sixteen," Jenny repeated. "Okay, let's go kick some Dark Warrior tail!"

~*~

The Dark Warrior was getting impatient. He still waited in the field for Spinal to deliver the Lights of Orion. He was surprised when Spinal returned with his friends instead.
"Spinal!" he growled.
"Yep, that's me," Spinal replied. "And I brought something much more precious than the Lights of Orion."
Jenny smiled. "Ready to die, Dark Warrior?"
"Tonfa Spice, you were the one who was supposed to die!" Dark Warrior cried. "How did you escape!?"
"You know that you're not supposed to strap a good guy to a counting explosive. They'll escape every time."
"Well, no matter. I'll kill you myself!"
Dark Warrior held up his hand to reveal a bazooka attached to his arm. He fired an explosive shot; the heroes leaped out of the way. Lenina leaped off Gazelle's shoulder and battled Dark Warrior herself. She attacked with a vicious flurry of kicks similar to when she had attacked Gazelle. When Dark Warrior stepped back, he threw a heavy metal ball attached to a chain which struck Lenina's stomach, knocking the wind out of her.
"Hey, you should know better!" Gazelle shouted. He leapt off Lenina's back and nailed Dark Warrior with a jump kick, sending him to the ground.
Once Lenina regained her breath, she thrust her hand out, firing small, white sparks from each of her fingers. They hit Dark Warrior squarely in the chest.
"Great shot, Lenina!" Jenny called. "Let's finish him off, people!"
The heroes rushed at Dark Warrior, catching him with every attack they knew. After they had their fun, C.C. swept the monster off its feet and stomped on his neck. The monster died a painful death.
"You'll never get the Lights from me," Spinal vowed…….

~*~

"Lenina, you've got some style!" Damon commented when they returned home.
"You really know how to sparkle," Jenny added. "In fact, is that what we should call you? Sparkle Spice?"
Lenina smiled. "I like the sound of that."
"Great! Welcome to the club!"
So now Lenina was officially a Spice Club member. As if Jenny needed any more people to keep track of! There were already so many people in the group, would any additional members make a difference in the war between good and evil?

‹"@
