Author's notes – This story takes place during the second week of May, beginning three weeks after the events of "'The Return of Ultramarine'. Just some quick words of advice – this story is very, very long, so don't read it all in one sitting. Most of the story is based on real events and things that actually did happen, so the story isn't completely action-packed, but it allowed me to give all cast members a good solid dose of character development :-).

There are several references to a black costume and Peter's ninja/stealth abilities – you'll know them when you read them – which refer back to a second series of stories I've written but haven't yet published, featuring the same characters in the same universe but focussing on their lives as civillians and ordinary kids. Finally, one of the monsters that features in this story is an actual canon PR monster, one of my absolute favourite monsters that was ever used on the show. First person to identify which monster it is and what episode/season they were from wins, I don't know, something. Maybe nothing :-). Phew, that's all I needed to say. Enjoy!

A Week to Remember
Prologue
By Peter J. Smith

Under the starry night sky and the watchful gaze of the full moon, the desert transformed. No longer was the bleak landscape a harsh, unforgiving world of sand dunes, rocks and heat. Bathed in a silver glow from millions of points of light, the desert became gentle slopes, serene tablelands and majestic mountains reaching for their own share of the heavens. On one such peak rested a large, unimposing beige-coloured structure. Circular in design, infinite in importance, the stillness of the desert was contrasted by the bursts of activity within the structure's walls. Lights flashed, alarms sounded, and one very excited little robot urgently hurried through the tunnels which honey-combed their way under the mountain, carrying a small, jeweled, silver box.

"Zordon!" cried Alpha, as he entered the Central Chamber of the Command Centre's top level, "you were right!"

"I was?" asked the disembodied head floating in the blue plasma tube.

Alpha placed the silver box on one of the control panels and flipped open the lid. Instantly, the room was lit with a blinding glare, and Alpha's light-sensitive sensors almost shut down on the spot.

"Yes," the robot nodded. "I ran some tests back down in the power vault, and your suspicions were correct. It's losing power at an alarming rate. Nothing I could do was able to halt or even slow the power drain."

Zordon shut his eyes and said nothing for several minutes. "This is indeed troubling," he said, unable to disguise the concern in his voice. "But at least we know what tripped the Command Centre's alarm. How much time do we have?"

Alpha's reply was immediate. "About five days. Then, it will lose all power and cease to exist."

Zordon frowned. "And we cannot let that happen." The centuries-old sage paused a moment, deep in thought. Surely, there was something they could do…

"Alpha," began Zordon quickly, an idea occurring to him. "What if we found someone to harness the power?"

Alpha nodded. "Yes Zordon, that would work. With the power in use, it would be able to automatically regenerate itself, and the flow would cease. But where are we going to find someone at such short notice?"

"We don't have much choice," replied Zordon urgently. "Alpha, call the Rangers and have them meet here as soon as possible. We have a recruitment drive to organise."
