The Maniac
By Lamont Stewart

After the adventure with the Tier Upper, Lamont and his friends went inside to keep from catching cold.

"What do you think is going to happen now?" Jacob asked.

"Now we go to lunch," Lamont commented.

They went to their before-lunch class get-together like they did everyday.

Meanwhile, in Magic-El's evil lair, she was talking with another person. "Tier Upper tried to be a traitor; I hope you don't make the same mistake."

"I won't."

"So what should I call you?"

"I am know as The Maniac."

"So do you think you can handle this project?"

"It's just a bunch of 2nd graders. How hard can it be?"

"Don't underestimate kids. They can be tricky. Especially the one I want. He has something special in his blood, which is why I want him dead."

"I will not fail you." With that, Maniac left.

"I've avoided it for so long," Magic-El thought. "Can it be coming true now? Is he the one who will defeat me? He has the blood; otherwise he couldn't control the power of the hat. I can't take the chance — I must kill everybody that has the blood from that planet."

They 2nd grade class was sitting in their little group, like they did everyday before lunch.

"Okay. Today," Mrs. Smith said, "anybody who was born in December can go first."

Lamont and Bobby Wertz jumped up first then headed to lunch.

All of a sudden, a person with a hovercraft appeared. "I'm the maniac, and I'm here to kill ya."

"Oh great," Michael said. "Another one."

"Another what?"

"Another loser to defeat!" Lamont said.

"I don't think so," the Maniac gloated. He pushed a button on the hovercraft, and a rope came out and clung around Lamont and Bobby. Then, with a hook, he picked them up.

"Ha, ha! I told her this would be easy."

"You haven't won yet," Jacob said.

"Who's going to stop me?"

"I am!" Lamont declared. He started to swing back and forth, swinging the rope with Bobby and him.

Meanwhile back in her lair, Magic-El was monitoring the entire thing. "Oh well. I guess he couldn't do it." She closed the screen. "I'm going to have to bring out the big guns."

Meanwhile, one of the teachers had called the police.

Lamont swung so far that he reached the hovercraft and kicked the Maniac. The Maniac flew out of the craft and landed by the police.

As the police were dragging him away, Lamont stood triumphant. "That is what an eight-year-old can do."

Before the police came back, Jacob McLaughlin hid the hovercraft. When the police did come back, the class pretended not to know what he was talking about. Not wanting to look stupider then a bunch of 2nd graders, he just left.

After all of that, Lamont, David, and Jacob sat down around the computer that they salvaged from the hovercraft. Lamont pulled out the disk he found in the underground hideout of Tier Upper.

Lamont put the disk in. "Maybe now we can finally get some answers."
