Disclaimer- Saban owns the Rangers, Phil Collins owns the song, and I own the disturbing lack of sanity displayed here. Now that we're clear on that… This songfic is rated G by the Motion Picture Association of America. If this song doesn't scream "Tommy," to you, then one of us needs therapy. No bets on who. In the Air Tonight
by: Ellen Brand

Everything was dark and silent. It was always dark and silent in that place, and quite frankly, the Green Ranger was getting tired of it. Here in the darkness, he had become more than the puppet Rita had created to destroy the Rangers of Earth, much, much more. He was the embodiment of everything dark in their shared soul, the essence of chaos. "'I am become Death, destroyer of worlds,'" he intoned, a wicked smile on his face as he lazily tossed a ball of green energy into the air. Thanks to Tommy's rather large guilt complex, he had become Evil personified- and he was getting REALLY sick of being locked up.

I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord.
And I've been waiting for this moment, oh all my life, oh Lord.
Can you feel it coming in the air tonight? Oh Lord, oh lord.

"After all, a guy needs to get out and stretch his legs once in a while," he explained, to no one in particular. "So many things I need to do…" For a minute, the Green Ranger was lost in imagining the carnage he would wreak when he was free. Buildings would topple, forests would burn, people would stampede in the streets. And when the Rangers came to challenge him, he'd take great pleasure in slowly killing them all, while his goody-two-shoes 'other' screamed helplessly inside his head.

Well if you told me you were drowning,
I would not lend a hand.
I've seen your face before my friend,
But I don't know if you know who I am.

The White Ranger. A wave of hatred more intense than any the Green Ranger had ever known swept over him. It had been bad enough when Tommy had been Zordon's Green Ranger, using the powers in a futile attempt to make up for what he'd done. Then, at least, there had been the desperation and the overwhelming guilt. But now that the White Power had come, it was as if Tommy had shed the darkness with no more though than casting off a pair of socks. The Green Ranger REALLY hated that.

Oh, but I was there and I saw what you did,
I saw with my own two eyes.
So you can wipe off that grin.
I know where you've been.
It's all been a pack of lies.

"How dare he deny me? Deny US!" the Green Ranger seethed. "How can he just forget what we are?" Just as quickly, though, he gained control of himself. "He can't, of course. Isn't that right, bro? Oh, sure, you can keep smiling for the cameras, and for your goody-good friends, but we both know what's inside you. What you've been and what you've done.

I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord.
And I've been waiting for this moment, oh all my life, oh Lord.
Well, I remember. I remember, don't worry.
How could I ever forget?
It's the first time, the last time
We ever met.

The Green Ranger smiled a little, but there was no warmth or humor in that expression. "You bury the darkness away inside you. Perfect white knight, can do no wrong. All you want is to forget it ever happened. Well, go ahead and forget. I'll keep those memories safe for you."

Snickering, the evil Ranger continued to speak, knowing the dark spaces around him were absorbing his words. "You fought pretty hard when I took over, I'll give you that- but it wasn't nearly enough, was it? I OWNED you, pretty boy, and you did whatever I said. Everything except Jason– gotta admit, you caught me by surprise there. You'd only known the guy three days; I never expected you to feel that strongly about killing him."

Oh and I know the reason why you keep your silence, sir.
No, you don't fool me.
The hurt doesn't show,
But the pain still grows.
No stranger to you and me.

An image of the White Ranger laughing with his friends caused the Green Ranger's lip to curl. "Having a good time, Tommy? Sure, go on, put up a good front. Maybe if it goes on long enough, you'll even believe it. I wouldn't mind that at all. See, the more you throw yourself into being perfect, the more you're tearing yourself apart."

I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord.
And I've been waiting for this moment, oh all my life, oh Lord.

"The more you deny me, the stronger I become."

I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord.
And I've been waiting for this moment, oh all my life, oh Lord.

Greenish light played across a truly unholy smile. "Get ready, bro. The Green Ranger is coming back in style."
