Graduation Day
By Dana

Cherish your yesterdays: Dream your tomorrows
Graduating class of 1997 Class Motto
South Medford High School (Medford Oregon)

Jason Lee Scott stood off to the side of the stage talking to his parents and Kimberly Hart. Kimberly was staying in Angel Grove for the graduation. It was finally his graduation day. He started thinking about the other night. How he and his friends; Kimberly, Tommy Oliver, Katherine Hilliard, Tanya Sloane, and Adam Park stayed up all night talking about the past and where they what plans they had.

So we talked all night about the rest of our lives
Where we're gonna be when we turn 25
I keep thinking times will never change
Keep on thinking things will always be the same

He took the boutonniere that Mrs. Applebee offered him. His mother, Elizabeth Scott, took it from him and pinned it on his graduation gown. He saw his best friend, Tommy, standing off to the side talking to his girlfriend, Katherine.

Katherine, better known as Kat, Hilliard laughed at something her boyfriend said. She was glad he changed his mind and went to the graduation ceremony. She wondered how things would be now that she would be concentrating on her ballet and he would be racing cars. Sure, there was the Ranger thing, but would they still be as close?

But when we leave this year we won't be coming back
No more hanging out cause we're on a different track
And if you got something that you need to say
You better say it right now
'Cause you don't have another day

"Tommy." Kat started to say causing Tommy to turn around to face her. "I love you." She said.

"I love you too Kat."

Adam and Tanya were standing a bit further down with their parents. More and more students and family had started to arrive. Adam grabbed his girlfriend's hand and they walked to a quieter area.

Tanya smiled up at her boyfriend. They had only been going out for a couple months but it felt like it would last forever. She couldn't believe it was graduation day already. It seemed like she just started school in Angel Grove High School. Though it would stay in the record books that she moved to Angel Grove with her parents when she was ten years old and Aisha moved from Stone Canyon when she was ten years old. How weird it was. She wondered what Aisha was doing right now.

'Cause we're moving on and can't slow it down
These memories are playing like a film without sound

Adam saw the thoughtful look on Tanya's face. He wondered what she was thinking. He also started thinking about the women who he had loved. First, there was Aisha Campbell in junior high. Junior high 'love' didn't last long, as he and Aisha soon again became best friends. They had gone to a couple of dances together in high school but nothing serious. Now he was dating Tanya.

I keep on thinking of the night in June
I didn't know much of love but it came too soon
And there was me and you when we got real blue
We'd stay at home talking on the telephone
We'd got so excited and get so scared
Laughing at ourselves thinking life's not fair
And this is how it feels…

After being interrupted for a monster fight, they were finally ready to start the ceremony. "Students, teachers, parents, and family members we need you to get assembled for the ceremony." Mr. Caplin said.

Kat led the way onto the field where the ceremony would be held. She cast a look behind her at her boyfriend who smiled. She sat with her class and listened to the first couple of speeches, dedications and awards before her name was called to give the Valedictorian Speech.

As we go on, we remember
All the times we had together
And as our lives change
Come whatever,
We will still be friends forever

Detective Stone threw a graduation party at the Youth Center. Everyone had been invited. There was food on all of the tables, punch in the back of the room, and a large banner that said CONGRATULATIONS GRADUATES. Mrs. Applebee stood off to the side snapping pictures.

Kat and Tommy entered holding hands. Most everyone in the class and their families were already there.

"Did I mention yet how much I loved you speech?" Tommy asked.

Kat smiled. "Yes."

"Well then I'm telling you again." Tommy said and waved to Jason who was in deep conversation with Kim. He and Kat headed over towards them.

"Congratulations." Kimberly greeted. "I loved your speech Kat."

"Thanks Kim. I'm glad you stayed." Katherine said. "Maybe we can go shopping sometime and catch up."

"Sounds great!" Kim said reaching for a glass of punch.

"Congratulations." Another voice said from behind them. They turned around and saw Detective Stone.

"Thanks Detective Stone." Jason answered. "Looks like a great party."

"Sure does. If you'll excuse me." He said and walked away towards Bulk and Skull who were making a mess of the food.

Kim laughed. "Guess nothing changes with those two does it?"

"Nope." Rocky DeSantos said coming over to them slowly along with Justin Stewart.

"Hey Rocky glad they let you attend the graduation." Tommy said.

"I didn't want to miss it." Rocky admitted.

"Hey Rocky!" Tanya said walking over to the group with Adam.

"We've finally graduated." Jason said with a happy sigh. "Seems like we've been in High School forever."

"It does doesn't it?" Kat agreed sadly. Tommy wrapped his arm around her and she leaned in.

So if we get the big jobs and we make the big money
When we look back now will our jokes still be funny?
Will we still remember everything what we learned in school
Still be trying to break every single rule?
Will little brainy Bobby be the stockbroker man?
Will Heather find a job that won't interfere with her tan?

Mr. Caplin walked over to the front of the room and cleared her throat. "Can I have your attention please." The room became quiet. "I wanted to congratulate everyone else in graduating. Everyone in this room has a very bright future ahead of them and I wish them the best of luck." Everyone in the room applauded.

The Rangers, Jason, Rocky, and Kimberly found two tables and sat down. They laughed and shared stories for hours. Every once in awhile, one of their parents would come up to them and snap a picture before leaving.

I keep – keep thinking that its not goodbye
Keep on thinking its our time to fly
And this is how it feels…

As we go on, we remember
All the times we had together
And as our lives change
Come whatever,
We will still be friends forever

La la la la la la la…
We will still be friends forever

Jason sat back thinking. Thinking of the day, he met Kimberly Hart. The girl he was in love with.

It was back in first grade. Jason had Mrs. Wally along with Trini Kwan and Zack Taylor. There was a knock on the door and Mr. Jamison, Angel Grove Elementary Principal, entered the room with a small girl with light brown hair and brown eyes. "Class this is Kimberly Hart she just moved here from Stone Canyon." Mrs. Wally said. "Kimberly why don't you take the empty seat in the third row."

She nodded and took the seat next to Jason. "Hi I'm Jason Scott."

"Hi." She said shyly. She looked up as the teacher started with a review on numbers. She paid close attention and didn't notice how the kids watched her in curiosity.

When it was time for recess Trini Kwan, Zack Taylor, and Jason went over to her. "Hi I'm Trini." Trini greeted her.

"I'm Zack." Zack said with a large smile.

They had been close friends since that moment. Zack and Trini were still in Switzerland at the Peace Conference though. He still wrote them and he was going to visit them later in the summer. However, they said that they would be at the Pan Globals to cheer Kimberly on next month.

Kimberly smiled at Jason and squeezed his hand. She was glad Coach Schmidt had given her and the rest of the Pan Global team a couple of weeks off. She had missed her friends. She had gotten to know Tanya and liked her immediately. Too bad she wouldn't be in Angel Grove long enough to really get to know her. More reason to come back she guessed. She looked over at Tommy and Katherine. They looked so happy together. She thought back to when she wrote the letter. She just wanted Tommy to be happy and thought the long distance relationship was keeping him from being happy. Sure she dated Chase but they never got serious.

Tommy saw Kimberly watching him and Kat and looked away. He felt guilty even though Kimberly broke up with him and not the other way around. He thought back to when he first met Jason, Kimberly, Trini, Zack, and Billy. Well saw them.

Tommy stretched on the mats at the Youth Center. He had just moved to Angel Grove a week ago from northern California. His mother found an ad for a karate exhibition in the Angel Grove Tribune. She told him he should sign up and he did. He looked around and saw his parents and his two-year-old brother standing off to the side smiling and waving. He was slightly embarrassed but he just ignored them.

"Tommy Oliver?" A voice asked from behind him.

He turned around and saw one of the judges. "Yes?"

"I just wanted to let you know that your match with Jason Lee Scott will be the very last one."

"Thank you." Tommy said and went back to stretching and did a couple of katas. He looked up and saw several people watching him. The guy in red was most likely Jason Scott and his opponent. A pretty girl in pink was looking at him especially she was talking to an Asian girl in yellow. 'She's kind of cute.' He decided. She saw a guy in blue and a guy in black trying to get the guy in red ready for the competition.

After the competition was declared a draw Tommy walked over to Jason Scott and shook his hand. He smiled at the girl in pink again before hurrying over to where his family was waiting for him.

Now Tommy was in love with Katherine and nothing was going to change that. He squeezed his girlfriend's hand and she smiled at him.

Kat laughed at something Rocky had just said before thinking about something.. How she met Tommy in this youth center. She was under a spell at the time but she knew she loved him then.

She walked into the Youth Center looking around quickly for the White Ranger and found him sitting at the juice bar. She smiled. He really was cute.. She quickly ran a story through her head on what to tell him. She needed him to go in the car with her for the plan to work. Time to use the charm.

"Excuse me." She said. Tommy turned around and smiled. Kat almost melted to the ground right then. "I'm new here and my car broke down and I didn't know who to ask for help."

"Maybe you should call a mechanic?"

"I thought maybe you could help him." She held his stare until he agreed to help her. Things were going so well. She got him to go in the car after some reluctance and they were taken away in a spinning tunnel. She leaned her head against Tommy's shoulder pretending to be scared. He ate it up whether he knew it or not. He was so charming sticking his arm out for her to hold. Too bad Lord Zedd and Empress Rita were planning to kill him.

She looked at her boyfriend and smiled. Even when the spell was broken, she found she had an attraction to him. Though she never acted on it since he already had a girlfriend. She didn't act on it when Kim dumped him either. She never knew until a couple months ago that he shared the same feelings towards her. Now she couldn't imagine what it would be like not being together.

Adam and Rocky started talking about when they went to Stone Canyon High School. The others listened to them tell a story of their freshman year.

Adam, Rocky, and Aisha walked through the halls cautiously. It was the first day of high school. They had heard all summer to be careful of upper classman. They found their lockers and compared schedules. They all had first period together, English with Mr. Rodenburg.

"Hey look its Frosh!" Someone called from down the hall.

Aisha, Rocky, and Adam exchanged worried glances. They didn't know what they should do. So they kept walking. They learned a long time ago not to start fights.

"Hey I was talking to you, Frosh." The voice said again as he walked faster towards them. They stopped as they saw that they were surrounded.

"Excuse me." Rocky said, trying to push past them.

"I don't think so Frosh. See we're seniors and you're just lowly freshmen. You need to learn the rules of this school. Right Ben?" The guy asked the other guy who was in front of Aisha, Rocky, and Adam.

Rocky got into a fighting stance. He wasn't going to attack them he just didn't want them to think that he was a wimp. He saw Aisha and Adam do the same thing.

A girl watched them for a second before turning to the guy. "Jarred I've seen these three in ninja competitions. I wouldn't mess with them if I were you."

"Shell you sure?" Jarred asked.

She nodded. "I'm a level below them. Trust me they are very good."

Jarred, Ben, and Shelly walked away casting looks behind them at the freshman they had left behind.

"I won't forget that day." Adam said with a smile. "That was probably the best day we had at Stone Canyon High School. Angel Grove High School is much better."

"I won't disagree with you Adam. I miss Aisha though." Rocky said making sure no one heard them. "She was my best friend since third grade."

"I know I miss her too." Adam said softly feeling his girlfriend squeeze his hand.

Tanya sat there watching her boyfriend for awhile thinking back when she met the Rangers for the first time before the Command Center blew up.

After the teleportation beam ended, she looked at the other children in front of her. They looked at her with smiles although they hadn't met her until now. She felt safe with this group of people. She looked up at the tube with a large floating head in it. He smiled down at her and said, "HELLO TANYA."

She smiled. At that moment, she felt that everything would be all right. They got the crystal put together and she aged seven years very quickly. She barely had time to look down at herself before they were told to get out of the Command Center. She felt someone grab her hand as they teleported. She watched in shock as the Command Center blew up.

She never knew what was going to happen after that. She even thought of why she agreed to take Aisha's place. A girl she barely knew. But she realized later this was her destiny and she wouldn't change it for anything.

We think about tomorrow like we think about now?
Can we survive it out there?
Can we make it somehow?
I guess I thought that this would never end
And suddenly it's like we're women and men
Will the past be a shadow that will follow us around
Will these memories fade when I leave this town?

Tommy looked around amazed. They had been talking for so long they didn't realize they were the last people still there. There was Detective Stone, Bulk, and Skull cleaning up the Youth Center. He quickly looked at his watch and realized he needed to head home. But he didn't want this to end.

"I have a ballet class early in the morning." Kat said starting to stand up.. "I'll call you tomorrow Tommy. Bye!" She called to everyone before she headed out the door.

Tanya realized she had to go to the radio station for work. Adam said he'd walk her there. Rocky had to take Justin back to Little Angels and they left. That left Tommy, Jason, and Kimberly.

I keep – keep thinking that it's not goodbye
Keep on thinking it's our time to fly

Tommy gave Kimberly a quick hug. "See you later Kim. I'll try to make it to the Pan Globals." He said. "Talk to you later bro." Tommy said and walked out of the Youth Center.

"Wow I can't believe that I have to leave tomorrow." Kimberly said sadly as she and Jason walked out of the Youth Center together. "I wish I could stay here longer."

"Kim." Jason said quietly.

"Yes Jason?" She asked.

"I love you." He said.

"I love you too." She said and they kept walking thinking of friendship.

As we go on, we remember
All the times we had together
And as our lives change
Come whatever,
We will still be friends forever

The end

I hope that wasn't too cheesy of an ending. The class motto I have at the beginning of the fic was mine. Our graduation theme was together, we dream. Seems to work for this well. Good luck to all the seniors that graduated this year or are about to graduate! Send comments to me at Willow@grrtech.com.
